Fishing Pools

Pillaton Hall Farm is home to three well-stocked coarse fishing pools, all enjoying far reaching views over Cannock Chase. Built by the Pearce family in the late 1990’s the pools have been regularly stocked with good quality fish, sourced from some of the oldest lakes in the UK.

  • Peaceful location
  • Views over Cannock Chase
  • Three separate pools
  • Stocked with quality fish
  • Diverse range of fish species
  • Disabled access

The pools will be open from 1st March to 1st October 2024.

The Fishing Pools

The pools are all stocked with a variety of species ranging from 1 inch skimmer bream to 26lb monster carp.

All persons fishing must have at least two years fishing experience and must hold a valid rod licence.  Each person fishing will need their own unhooking mat and landing net; sharing is not permitted. Read our Fishing Rules for more details

Our fishing pools are accessible via purpose-built pathways and fishing platforms.

Our location draws people from across Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent and the West Midlands.

While each of the established coarse fishing pools are well-stocked with species that include Bream, Carp, Roach, Crucian Carp, Eel, Golden Orfe, Mirror Carp, Perch, Rudd and Tench, they each have their own distinct character:

The Dip is the largest pool on the site but is also the most open to the elements – so remember to pack some warm clothes for a windy and cold day. Located at the far end of the site the pool has an island in the middle, making it an ideal pool on which to use a feeder. Around the margins the waters are shallow; running from 1ft gradually falling away to 9 or 10 ft around the island, making it a safer option for children as the margins are shallower than the others.

The smallest pool on the site is The Marl Pit which, while used as a stock pool, also has a good range of larger fish and is the only pool at present to hold ghost carp. The deepest point is in the centre at 6ft with depths of about 3ft around its margins. This is a nice pool for hot days as you have some tree cover on one side, offering welcome shade.

If you fancy a quiet afternoon’s fishing and don’t mind a 5 minute walk, then park on The Dip car park and follow the signs. This pool is only a few years old but has come on extremely well – as it is a little further from the car park it gets fished less often and the fish are in fantastic condition. The end closest to the gate has a sunken island 2ft below the surface dropping around the sides of the island to about 8ft, which is the average depth of the pool.

5 star ratingEnjoyable first camping holiday We went as a family with two kids (8 and 12) and the grandparents. It was our first camping experience so only booked us in for 3 nights in case the kids didn’t like it - they loved it and wished we had stayed longer.
From the moment of arrival to the day we left, all staff we had interaction with were so pleasant and helpful. The ladies in the reception gave us a warm welcome. The wardens (man and wife - can’t remember names) were very friendly and when we were due to leave checked we were ok and made sure we were ok with how to credit back the unused electricity to the topupcard.
My parents (69 and 70) have had camping experience from other sites and said they had never seen facilities so clean, the shower block was modern and well looked after. Staff are seen regularly cleaning the facility block. There is a freezer in the foyer for refreezing any freezer blocks (no food allowed). There is two vending machines if needed and then at the back there are good washing facilities even with a TV on the wall.

There is enough on site to keep the kids happy. They enjoyed the play areas on site - the gold creek water play area, the zip wires, the bouncing pillows and having a day fishing with my husband and enjoyed the ample space around the pitch. We didn’t try the water activities but I’ve promised to do this next time with them as it looked like great fun (wasn’t brave enough for the cold water)

There is only one small constructive feedback in relation to dotties cafe which I think could be improved. I didn’t get the same sense of cleanliness/service here, this is because when we purchased ice creams, one of the knickerbocker glory’s fell on the counter as she was preparing the other ice creams and instead of offering to replace it, the girl expected us to continue to accept the ice cream which had fallen on an area where customers place hands/money etc, instead she said the counter gets wiped regularly. She did however replace the top part of the ice cream after I had asked if she could change it. The cafe is also quite expensive. This is only a small thing so still gave the site an overall 5 stars and would definitely be returning and would recommend to others.

4 star ratingNice site for families Nice site, lots for kids to do. The gold panning and bike track have been a nice touch this year. Das & Becki are great always happy to answer questions and are always driving around or picking up rubbish.
We caught some nice size fish which are in good condition. The band were good shame you don’t do it more throughout the year.
Downside the food prices in Dotties’s have shot up.
The standard of cleaning in the toilets and showers has dropped from last year.
Apart from that the site is perfect with nice friendly staff in Dotties and shop!!
